The Chicago based leading contemporary painter, David Berkowitz Chicago is born in Aurora on January 30, 1943. After finishing elementary school in Aurora, David moved to Chicago and enrolled in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, but he never finished the academy.
He became aware of his passion for painting after suffering a serious spine injury on a football match. David has been tied to the bed for several months and then he started painting portraits of patients.
David Berkowitz Chicago enrolled to the Village group of painters in 1970. His peculiar style with specific elements distinguished him from the other painters immediately. These elements that are present in Berkowitz's portfolio of paintings are pumpkins, as a symbol of wealth ("when the pumpkin is big and the corn is big), farm, granary, and bareback horses. He gives a special accent on the magical regions of childhood and the fairytale horses from his unforgettable collection. This makes his paintings to be easy to recognize, understand and easy to be loved.
What really brings Berkowitz out from others is the colorful display of his paintings, reflected as contemplation of unsatisfactory beauty, an independent theme of the world.
Berkowitz paintings (which can be seen here) have been presented on over 300 exhibitions around the world.
